A 6 month fellowship is available to recently graduated certified nurse midwives who are interested in learning more about out of hospital birth.

Welcome to our Center!

Women's Wellness & Maternity Center is an accredited, free-standing birth center nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee. We provide prenatal, birth and well-woman care in a safe, comfortable environment.

Our center is staffed entirely by women and we take pride in providing exceptional, personalized care in a relaxed environment.
Our Facility

WWMC is conveniently located in Madisonville, TN, just 15 minutes from I 75, midway between Knoxville and Chattanooga.


Our family centered facility has three comfortable, home like birth suites with private bathrooms and access to a labor tub.

Additional Information & Resources

Being a not-for-profit, our birth center is always accepting donations to help us in our endeavors to provide excellent healthcare to the women of East Tennessee and their families. Donations may be made to the center via mail or our Just Give site.


Carla King MSN, CNM

Women's health and prenatal care is provided by our certified nurse midwife, Carla King. Carla completed her Master's Degree in Nurse Midwifery at Frontier Nursing University. She is a native of Ohio but relocated to the mountains of East Tennessee with her husband and five children to provide family centered care to women. She believes in empowering women to be partners in their own health care and is an advocate for normal birth. Carla sees patients daily at the center  and is on call for patients needs after hours.

Our Philosophy and Approach to Birth

We believe that pregnancy and birth are normal life events and should be woman-centered. We strive to provide a sanctuary for normal birth with minimal use of intervention.

Our providers are committed to nurturing women and their families, providing comprehensive, holistic care. We are closely connected with the larger health-care system, with safe, smooth transfer and referral pathways.

WWMC's Mission Statement

To provide safe and sensitve well-woman and maternity services by Certified Nurse-Midwives to women of Monroe County and surrounding areas.

To educate women through one-on-one counseling and community outreach about healthy pregnancy, parenting, and wellness.

To increase access to prenatal care and well-woman care, regardless of the patient's ability to pay.
